At the release event for the DVD/Blu-ray of Bakemono no Ko/The Boy and The Beast held in Tokyo on March 6, Yuichiro Saito, the producer of Studio Chizu, confirmed that Mamoru Hosda has been already working on his new film, reported Movie Natalie. The film’s soundtrack composer Masakatsu Takagi was also at the event.
Hosoda’s fourth anime feature film Bakemono no Ko/The Boy and The Beast opened in Japan on July 11, 2015. It earned a massive 5.85 billion yen from its domestic run, becoming the second top-grossing Japanese film of the year. It also surpassed his previous film Okami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki/Wolf Children‘s box office record of 4.22 billion yen in 2012. The DVD/Blu-ray was released on February 24.
In the end of the event, Saito said, “Hosoda has now started making his new film again. Because there was Okami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki, Bakemono no Ko was able to born. So I think his next story will be
filled with new challenges, which can be made because of Bakemono no Ko.”
